Before Marlowe, I was one of those people that would pick up and go on a whim. Living in Rhode Island and Massachusetts gave me the ability to travel to so many surrounding states to explore new towns or see friends I missed. Three day weekend? Perfect: time to pick up and go. I had limited responsibilities other than class and work… and well, I’m antsy. Since then, I picked up and left for Arizona, then to Florida, then south to Miami and back to South Florida, once I got pregnant. Now, I’m here. I still don’t own a house or anything, but I’m pretty settled. (Can you believe I am STILL waiting to hear on that house?!) And I enjoy it. But… just because I have a child doesn’t mean life has to complete stop or change. I’ve learned this. There is still time for a quick pick up and go… or under certain circumstances: a long pick up and go. (This might be happening soon.) This past weekend, I just wanted and needed to get away. I wanted to spend a good time, with good people, somewhere else. Sunday morning: I texted my friend Claudia and asked if she wanted visitors. I invited myself over, left my pup with my brother, and packed up Marlowe. We spent a quick, tiring, and perfect twenty four hours in Miami. Ordered Harrys Pizzeria (yum yum yum). Lounged outside with an afternoon cocktail while the kiddos played, went for many walks around the neighborhood, I kicked ass at rummikub, and Claudia and I even headed out for a night of small food and few drinks. It was perfection and just what I needed in the midst of this summer heat. I know I might not always have the capability to pick up and go, so for now, I’ll plan (or not plan, hehe) on taking small (or big) needed, random getaways.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! I have a zoo date and possibly a home dinner date this weekend and a few other fun things planned this weekend 😉 I’m very much looking to spending a lot of time with my little girl. It’s been two days too long without her!

  1. we had a great time. invite yourselves over any time. Lily has been asking for Marlowe.

also, i found this: http://www.theglow.com/jemima-kirke/?i#1, and i thought she had some pretty cool things to say about how being and artist and a mother could coexist as well as keeping your spontaneity and sense of adventure when becoming a parent. xo

  2. You are awesome for living freely! And you totally live in a luscious area. Beautiful pix & thanks for sharin'!

  3. We all need getaways every once and awhile to free our minds and reguvenate our souls. I'm glad you acted upon your urge. Just because you're a mom doesn't mean your life has to stop!
