Happy Valentine’s day, friends! We celebrated by treating ourselves to an asian noodle restaurant last night and Alex let me sleep in today while he made me (heart shaped!) pizza. There’s no truer way to my pizza obsessed heart.
I’ve got the easiest pizza sauce recipe ever today. We do a slightly different cooked verison too, but this recipe is PERFECT for a quick and easy pizza sauce. Emphasis on pizza— this would be a bit whatever for pasta. But that’s just my sauce-perfectionist opinion 😉

You’ll need:
A 28 ounce can of organic* whole peeled tomatoes
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large clove or garlic
a handful of fresh basil and oregano (we use cuban oregano, but any variety is great, just keep it fresh!)
1/2 teaspoon salt
crack of fresh pepper

How to:
Drain tomato water from can*
Blend tomatoes, and everything else with blender until smooth.
TADA, sauce!
Spread on delicious homemade pizza dough and top with the best cashew cheese or your other favorite cheese.

Notes:
-Go organic! Trust me on this! You don’t have to buy the fancy brand, it can just be the store name brand, just be sure you buy organic! It makes a huge difference…..with everything yes, but ESPECIALLY with tomatoes. It’s a world of difference. There’s actual natural sweetness and flavor in organic tomatoes!
-You can just dump the tomato water, I assume most people would… but If I’m cooking then my super frugal, hate to waste self reserves the liquid to use for later recipes (soups, sauces, whatever). It can stay comfortably for up to three days in the fridge. It would be great to add it to my bread garlic soup recipe!

Enjoy!

If you guys are celebrating or not, I hope you enjoy your day— it is the weekend after all! And thanks for being here. It means a lot to have so much support on this thing. I love you guys 🙂 Happy Valentine’s day!

  1. Oh, yesterday I used a very similar version of this sauce to spread on toast! Just used fresh tomatoes and added chopped dryed tomatoes. I hadn't thought of using it as pizza sauce but I'm definitely trying it!
