A few months ago I was asked to participate in a pretty fun collaboration with Musana Jewlery. After learning that Musana is a non-profit company that not only gives back to each of the Ugandan women it employs, but also gives back to the community, I was in. The Musana women not only receive employment (making beautiful jewelry), but while there, they learn English, receive literacy training, health training, and financial training for future plans. Pretty good, huh? After realizing it was a video collaboration… I wanted to run, hide, and say “no way, man”, but I was still in.
I was paired up with Immaculate, who you can tell by the video, has the warmest spirit and kindest nature. I asked Immaculate, if you could only give one piece of positive advice to your children, what would it be?
And then there’s me. As nervous as nervous can be. I’ve always debated about videos on the blog, not just because I’m incredibly camera (everything) shy and awkward, but because I wasn’t sure if it was a right fit for this space. I had a whole plan of the many things I planned to talk about—all laid out in my head, but when the camera came on, I froze. I figured if all else failed, we could do a couple takes, but here we are, first take, all my focus on Marlowe πŸ˜‰ Either way, here’s mine. I really cannot even begin to describe how nervous (or as Alex asked, “why were you so tense?”) I get in front of a camera, but you’ll see for yourself.
The very sweet Katie designed the first image above for her blog and kindly adjusted it to my florida location. You can see how much more cool and collected her video is, on her (beautiful!) blog.
You can also check out the videos from the other bloggers on the Musana Blog
Happy Weekend! Who ever you take care of, whoever you’re setting an example for, however you plan on celebrating— or not celebrating it, I hope it’s a good one. Happy Mother’s day, friends.

    Drea,

I've followed you as this incredible, intelligent, successful, brilliant mom for the past couple years and only now can I put the two together that you are not only in words incredible, but also in person (on video) incredible.

What an absolutely incredible cause and short you have made for the cause.

As a mom to a little lady myself – who is a little older than yours – I am so happy to be able to put that last piece to the puzzle and now know a little more about the person who I am reading about and connecting with through each post.

    Beautiful. And thank you.

    xxoo

    • Haha thanks! I'm not worried about doing amazing/not doing amazing. I'm just so out of my natural skin doing these things! Everyone who knows me who watched this was like "Why are you so nervous?!" I'm normally much more a laid back, everything is cool kind of person, and I'm looking (and feeling!) so uptight here! πŸ™‚
