It’s really funny how things work out.

I assumed that some friends, family, or unfortunately people I don’t care for may have been taking my photos and saving them, but I never thought I would really have to explain to people that they cant post my photos on a public forum without asking, crediting, and/or linking back my photos. But to stay on the safe side I added to my blog, “please feel free to use any photos, but be sure to credit them and link them back to my blog.” I’m not a jerk, I think it’s more than fair for me to ask people to credit my photos. Funny thing is, I added this yesterday, and hours later found my photos from my blog stolen and posted on someone else’s flickr with no tags, credit, links, or anything. (Yes, this does have to do with Marlowe’s father). Last time I checked, all photos and words on this blog were mine. So what changed? Nothing, some people just don’t want to be respectful and play by the rules. This blog has many purposes, and one of the purposes is for me to one day show it to Marlowe and for her to be able to look back at all the pictures and great moments she had as a child. A blog is such an incredible tool for me to be able to keep a day to day diary on her life for the future Marlowe and for current far away friends and family members to read and keep up to date. My long distance family loves being able to keep up daily with the life of Marlowe and Drea. And even for her father… I mean, really, what other father who moves 1,200 miles away would be able to keep up to date on his child like this? None. He isn’t part of her day to day life, or even week to week, and hardly month to month. Now there will be no photos for him to see or words to read about his daughter. Now he wont know when she first rolls over, or when she begins to teeth, or crawl, or hardly anything. He made his choice and abused this blog and well, I don’t appreciate it when people are selfish and take things for granted. I really never wanted to have to stop posting the wonderful pictures of my beautiful daughter and I definitely didn’t want to have to put watermarks on my photos, so my question is: now what? I asked to have photos removed and was refused. Do I stop blogging and take away from my friends, family, and Marlowe because of one selfish person? Or do I keep going? I figured, for now, I would keep blogging, but limit Marlowe posts and/or make them private and any photos containing Marlowe will have a friend or a family member holding her. We’ll see how that goes. It’s all pretty upsetting. Is it really that difficult to follow the rules? All I have to say to the person who knowingly stole, posted my photos, and refuses to remove them is: you are a pathetic individual and karma has already gotten a hold of your sad life. And what I want to say to the people who have reblogged and/or posted credited photos is: I really appreciate your support! Thank you thank you!

Well, now that the bad is out of the way, I have another (REALLY GOOD!) lesson to share on crediting photos:
You guys may remember this post about Marlowes first picture in the News Times or this Halloween post. Well, when I first found Marlowes picture, I posted it and credited the source as best I could. I credited the article and Monica’s (McGivern) name, but not her site. Later on Halloween, she took another photo of me and later that night I hunted her down in the madness of thousands of people to try to ask where I could credit her to. It was chaotic and she handed me her card. I tried to say “thank you” and rushed off. Later that week I emailed her and thanked her for the photos and made sure to go back and link her site to both the photos. And….? Well, I’m glad I did! She was offering a Thanksgiving contest giving a free one hour photo session to the winner. I entered and found out yesterday: I WON! I would have never entered if I did not go back and ask her for her site. Now isn’t that some good karma and a lesson to be learned!? I think so! Now little Marlowe and I will be having our own little photoshoot together! How exciting!
A cute video she did to show the winner:
The moral of the story: Bad people ruin good things for other people. And it pays to have karma on your side!
I decided after all the crap I’ve dealt with this year Marlowe and I deserve and extra long Holiday season, so we are making it an early Christmas and heading to Atlanta on the 20th or 21st! And we wont be returning ’til the end of the month! Oh Karma, I love you. Watch out now! You don’t want to mess with me, Atlanta! 🙂

  1. I swear there is some kind of code that makes it impossible for anyone to steal your images…maybe your bf would know? Also, maybe make your flickr private? I'm sorry you are dealing with this. 🙁

  2. @Cassie- Thanks!
@Kalani- Absolutely a-okay! It's not like you did it behind my back! And I was about to do it anyway! You just beat me to it! Also, You posted the link directly from my flickr! 🙂

  3. ooops! hope I didn't f-up by posting on Pizzeria's Facebook. 😮 I just thought it was super cute!

  4. That is so aggravating! I dont blame you for being upset. Maybe you should set your blog to private and then people can only read your blog by invite. Its a little bit limiting, but at least you dont have to deal with thievery!
Hang in there Mama, your doing a good job.
