Everyone is in a different stage of life. Some are about to retire, while others are just finishing college and getting that first job (holla!). It’s the circle of life that never ends. Most people have 9-5 jobs for 30 – 40 years of their life. In light of all of this, I’ve heard lots of discussion as too why the regular 9 – 5 is dissatisfying. And while there are lots of points I agree with in these discussions, and can relate to, I think it’s good to remember reasons why we are at our day job and the good it does for us.  So when you are reaching to open your own business or pay off loans so you can stay at home with the kiddos, I hope these reminders will help you be a little happier about your day job:
Remember that it’s providing.
If you’re working a job you don’t enjoy or even one you hope to move on from soon – it’s most likely because you need money. Don’t think of this in a way of just working for money but that it is providing for you, your spouse, your kids, and anyone else that may be depending on you. This job is allowing you to live life and keep those around you happy and healthy.
Remember that you are gaining experience.
You may be gaining experience in different ways. Not just knowledge about a specific profession, but possibly patience or thankfulness. If you don’t feel like you are getting much from your job, try to see what you are learning from those around you or your attitude about your current situation.
Remember to adventure.
We often get stuck in the mundane and forget to live for adventure and fun. Make the most of your weekends. Visit family, a new city or hiking place.  This gives you something to look forward too during the week, and fun stories for the office!
Remember to make it comfortable. In other words – decorate. If you work in the same cubicle or room every day, then make it your own! Get comfortable and make it freaking cute!

Remember to make relationships.  Along with spending time in your office / cubicle, you’re also spending 8 hours a day with coworkers. Build relationships, learn something new about people. I’m not saying working with certain people is always easy (because we all know it’s not) but do your best to find those companions in the work place. Sometimes friends can be found in unexpected places, like the older lady whose super sweet and gives you candy every day 😉

Being thankful for things can be hard, especially when they feel like more of a burden then a blessing. Do your best to remember why you’re doing what you’re doing. It’s important and can change our attitude, which can help the way we feel about our situation. So you go get it and show those day job buddies some happiness!

  1. I love this. Often it is so easy to think about the bad things about your job and have a perpetual case of the mondays. I definitely follow the weekend adventure rule.

  2. A very good, realistic and encouraging article!!! I really needed it!!! Thanks!!! 🙂

  3. Luckily I love my current job (I'm a barista in a Starbucks) but I'm also one of those soon-to-be-college-grads (as of December – woohoo the end is near!) and this is definitely good to keep in mind 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
