I’ve been working on a post for the past two days. Just when I finally got into a good writing flow, my mom face-timed me and I thought, “we’ll just chat for a minute and ‘ll get back to writing” the thing is, my mom and I rarely ever chat for a minute– she’s a great talker and I’m a great listener. We’re a good match. We’ll straight up face-time for two hours+. After our conversation, I went back to my blog post where I was mid sentence and thought, “what was I even going to say in this sentence? I’m so lost!” I was lost.

Moments come and go where I’ve written out the whole post— but only in my head and never on the actual computer. It’s just one of those types of posts. In short, I feel a big huge shift coming on and I’m trying to piece it together to write it all down. In hopes that you guys aren’t completely confused and thinking, “did we miss something?” I don’t know— if I ever go missing from the blog for more than a day you can either assume 1. I’m writing something I really give a crap about and got lost somewhere. 2. I’m not feeling well. 3. my mom has face-timed me. So, while I write my longer post–I’ll leave you with what Marlowe eats. You guys like these posts anyway, right?! (Love you mom! Face-time me anytime.)

Mushroom dumplings. We could all legitimately eat 40 of these things in one sitting. They are so good. They take a bit of time to make, but they are so worth it. They’re also in the cookbook if you want the recipe. And since I can’t eat gluten (or raw food) anymore, I opted to wrap mine in steamed cabbage leaves. + a side of marinated tempeh for me because I eat a protein with every single meal now. Plus Marlowe made the dipping sauce for us all by herself!

She asked us to make blueberry chia pudding the other day– but we completely forgot so I offered her oatmeal cooked with blueberries and almond milk for breakfast. Side of granola. Also to note, I’ve been following @waywardspark on Instagram forever now (opposite lives on opposite coasts) and she shipped us some of her husbands honey, it’s so freaking good. Marlowe’s favorite is the coriander variety. Mine is the clary sage. We’re both going to be sad when it runs out. I’m actually going to go have a spoonful now. brb.

Tomato + squash soup. It’s loaded with a ton of veggies and she loves it.
So, we don’t make chickpea patties as often any more, but when we do, we definitely make a huge batch to use throughout the week. And it gets pretty repetitive but she’s happy to go the whole week eating them, so we don’t have to even freeze them or anything. But you can totally freeze them if you’d like! Also, we have been making them without the breadcrumbs so I can eat some from time to time. They still hold up, but are a bit more delicate.

Day two, chickpea patties + avocado + egg and spinach scramble. So We stopped the whole egg thing for a while, not really for any specific reason other than she doesn’t really need them. But we had a lot of leftover eggs that we picked up from our chicken farm (from when my mom was in town) so I figured we should eat them since I hate wasting food. And yes, ketchup. Super rare, but sometimes given with chickpea patties.

Day three. Chickpea patties + baked fries + baked rutabaga + kale chips.

rice + quinoa tossed with peas, cabbage, and a bit of spinach saag.side of avocado.

avocado + plantain toast. Still her favorite. All of our favorites really. It’s in the cookbook.

miso soup + carrots, cabbage, spinach, and seaweed.

a pasta with a bit of shredded zucchini + carrots to resemble noodles + spinach and roasted tomatoes.

We both decided nachos would be a good idea. So I made simple black beans (in cookbook) + cashew cheese + guacamole for her + hot sauce for me. I’m still unsure of corn in my stomach but it doesn’t seem to really knock me out, so I’m still doing it in moderation for now. Cashews and all nuts have unfortunately shown to not be friends with my gut. And I’m really sad about that.

black beans day two. pureed a bit of the leftover beans + kale chips + rice + avocado. There’s a lot of leftovers and repetition in this post, huh? But that’s life. (mostly) healthy food staples!

black beans day three. I cooked in a bunch of spinach, topped with guacamole, and threw it on a tortilla for lunch <3

Sorry for the iffy quality on most of these! I can’t wait for the days to get longer and to have sunshine during dinner 🙂 And in general,  (you guys know this), I’m not huge on staging stuff– and when it’s time to eat, and especially when it’s just me and M, we’re keeping it super simple this year!

I’m meeting with my (new, better) holistic dentist tomorrow to continue working on my bite and grinding and then meeting with a massage therapist to hopefully work out some of the tension in my neck and head from the grinding. Hoping it helps my overall well-being and maybe hopefully (crossing so many fingers) helps with the tinnitus a bit too. I’ve already made ten million changes this year, but I know I need to make more– it’s crazy how much of your life can change so quickly, yeah?

I hope you guys are having a great week! <3

  1. I love your cookbook and use it at least 3-5 times a week:) I don't have kids yet but plan on mastering the recipes so when it's time I can cook for my growing family! Sharing is caring and purchased it for my brother (who has a little baby boy) and best friend. I love and truly enjoy reading you blog- so i keep returning for all the sunshine. Thanks You make a difference!

    • I am Drea but it is way more important for you to be well and as always I get to know about it way too late. But I will always come back to check what you're guys up to 🙂

I wish to do it in a real time but this couple of months have been a bit of a blur to me, can't wait to be on top of things again wishing you just the same xxx

  2. When I was grinding my teeth, to where like I almost couldn't open my jaw in the morning, I got a bite guard, so sexy. 😉 After sleeping with it for a couple weeks, it trained me to fall asleep with my lower teeth/jaw in a different position, and now I rarely have to use it.

    • I've been using one for a while now! Not working unfortunarely, but the dentist works on it ever week for me and this week he seems to have high hopes it'll be the best fit ever and really work! We'll see. Didn't work last night– I woke up to me biting down on the mouth guard dreaming it was a grilled cheese. really.

  3. A great dentist and massage therapy are fantastic. Have you ever heard of cranio-sacral therapy? I am in Michigan so I can't give any recommendations for therapists for where you are, but I will say that it is AMAZING for headaches, jaw pain, and pretty much any sort of pain or discomfort. Just thought I'd pass that along. 🙂

    • Yes! I had it down last week actually! It' was okay! Then I had another massage yeserday– he does crania sacral too– but really massaged the crap out of my jaw neck and collar bone area– it helped A LOT. Still grinding, but took away a great deal of my discomfort!

  4. this kind of post always make me want to by your book! plus, i also have grinding and terrible head, neck and shoulders pain because of that and i would be very thankful if you could share something about that, after seeing the "doctors". do you also use that plastic protection on your teeth during sleep? thank you 🙂

    • I had a plastic mouth guard and then ended up upgrading to a custom made one— the dentist is trying to fix my bite entirely. Not even as a child di I have a regular bite– Marlowe can open her mouth wider than me. This mouth guard/piece is managing to widen my bite a bit (just by mm's, but still something!) but has done much for the grinding. I think its a stomach thing really. Strange, but not that weird for me!

    • i also think my grinding is related to my stomach issues. at least my dentist says the same as doctors about my stomach and gut complaints "it's your nervous system, you have to relax" as if i could press a relax button! 🙂
