Good morning friends! I thought I would share my morning smoothie recipe ๐Ÿ™‚ Smoothies can be painfully easy and “duh” inducing, but sometimes you really need to have the right combo because they can go from yum to yuck when adding savory veggies to the set fruit mixture. Ya know?

So I make this smoothie two ways. One way EXTRA packed with greens for me. And the other way, with a tiny bit of greens for Marlowe. I’ve been slowly up-ing her green amounts in the smoothies. At first I could just add a touch of green powder, now I can add fresh greens and the powder. But I definitely cannot add spirulina to hers! Haha. Maybeeeee if it was just a touch and there were not other greens, but I haven’t tried it yet. I’m totally going to recommend slowly upping your greenย + green powder amounts if you’re not huge on the idea of greens in a smoothie. I would also stick to delicate greens, like spinach or a spring mix blend, instead of something like kale, which can make your smoothie a bit gritty or textured, if not blended well enough. I personally LOVE the taste of spirulina now so I can add A LOT of it, but it’s definitely an acquired taste and not for everyone ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, here we go, let’s do two smoothie recipes, ya? Mineย + Marlowes.

Also. Can I just point out how incredibly weird it is that I am officially posting a recipe that has bananas— A LOT of bananas. The world has gone mad. I never thought this day would come. My mom still thinks the craziest thing I’ve done is become vegan– for me, I think the craziest thing I’ve done is start eating bananas. I couldn’t even sit in the same room with someone eating a banana before! The smell would make me gag, haha! But here I am, a bulk banana eating machine. As my mom said, “I have to I’ve day by day with you, you never know what you’ll do or change this week from next” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Marlowe’s go to morning smoothie:
-1 cup frozen blueberries
-3 bananas
-one small handful of mixed greens and/or 1 teaspoon of greens powder*
-coconut water — to desired consistency

How to:
-yeah, I mean, you’re going to just put everything in a high power blender and mix, but I totally recommend putting the greens on bottom, then blueberries, then bananas since the greens have to process a lot more than the bananas. Also, if you blend the bananas too much they oxidize quickly and can turn brown. ๐Ÿ™‚ Serve and drink up!

*you can use any green powder you prefer of course– I found this one at a smaller local shop and I find it t be really wonderful and all organic ๐Ÿ™‚

My go to morning smoothie recipe:
(makes about 50 ounces, yes, it’s A LOT! But it keeps ya full and happy for a while ๐Ÿ™‚ Feel free to cut recipe in half if you want less!)

-3 to 4 cups of mixed greens
-2 cups frozen blueberries
-5 bananas
-coconut water ย — to desired consistency

optional, but totally recommend:
1 tablespoon spirulina powder
1 teaspoon greens powder

How to:
-layer greens, frozen blueberries, and bananas into blender.
-add in green powders
-add in about two cups of coconut water*
-blend until smooth, adding more coconut water as necessary
-pour in giant glass (two or three times, cause it’s A LOT, haha) and enjoy!!

*so, I LOVE to use coconut water for this, but it gets pricey using coconut water everyday. So sometimes I’ll use good ole’ filtered water instead. Or do a half and half combo. But I def. suggest using the coconut water for the kid version, as it helps cover up all the green goodness more! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, I know I mentioned it this past week– but we really stepped up our blender game and it’s truly made all the difference. Vitamix’s are stupid expensive, but we are totally content with our refurbished purchase! But having a cheap-o blender totally works too— just be sure you blend the greens well! Our previous blender, a stick blender, lasted me 8+ years!

I love to sit outside and drink this in the sun in the morning. Marlowe too— and she usually puts on a sweater, haha ๐Ÿ™‚ But even inside, on a rainy day, it’s delicious. We sometimes make this smoothie twice a day– but the second having a much smaller portion of course ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me know if you’re for or whatever the smoothie recipes on the blog. I’m happy to share more ๐Ÿ™‚ And theres a whole smoothie chapter in the cookbookย too ๐Ÿ™‚ ย Hope you guys are having a great week!
