Let’s follow-up last weeks natural toothpaste recipe with a post on oil-pulling, cool? Cool. Clean healthy teeth for the win!

A Few Oil Pulling Facts:

I’m sure most of you have heard about oil pulling by now as it became really popular a few years ago, I had never tried it until recently. But the benefits seem to far outweigh any off-putting sensations or tastes.

How To:

Oil Pulling is an ancient Indian Ayurvedic health practice in which you take 1-2 teaspoons of high quality oil, today we will use organic coconut oil, and pull it through your teeth slowly for about 15-20 minutes.

Uses:

It is said to help oral health, and detoxify your body. The coconut oil itself has antibacterial properties in it, so in using that type of oil, it can help reduce your risk of cavities, gingivitis, and plaque build up. It is also a great teeth whitener!

Many claims also state that it can improve skin health, liver function, and hormone imbalances. Sounds pretty good to me!

Grapefruit Detox Oil Pulling

To up the benefits of oil pulling even more, I added some grapefruit essential oil to my treatment. Not only does it have a pleasant and citrusy taste to it, it also increases the oral health support that the coconut oil already is bringing to the table

What you’ll need:
1-2 teaspoons organic coconut oil
1 drop grapefruit essential oil
In a small glass bowl, mix together your coconut oil and grapefruit essential oil.

How to:
Swish the mixture around, pulling through your teeth for at least 15 minutes. It’s okay to slowly work up to that amount of time, as this definitely takes some getting use too.
Spit the mixture in your garbage can, as it can clog up your pipes!
Thoroughly rinse your mouth with water, then brush your teeth as normal. A homemade toothpaste would be the perfect finishing touch!
Try to do this once a day, maybe in the morning!

Tea Tree Immune Support Oil Pulling

Again, we are building on top of the benefits of oil pulling by adding tea tree essential oil to it. Tea Tree is known for its cleaning benefits, but here we are using it for its amazing immune system support. So if you feel like you might be getting sick, add tea tree to your morning oil pulling treatment for that added boost!

What you’ll need:
1-2 teaspoons organic coconut oil
1 drop tea tree essential oil

How to:
Follow the above directions for the grapefruit detox.

So there you have it! A simple way to implement essential oils and increase your health the natural way! These are the kind of practices that I just love discovering and teaching people about.
It can be very overwhelming to look around and see just how much we are exposed to chemicals and toxins on a daily basis. One simple change, once a day, is all it takes to start.
