What Marlowe Eats. Yes, it’s back. After much debate, I’m re-introducing it to the blog. It won’t be a weekly thing— but maybe maybe bi-weekly. We’ll see. I’ll be totally honest here, I decided to do this about two weeks ago— but I just kept forgetting to take pictures of her meals!
I guess, what I noticed is that a lot of people make a switch to being vegan and assume a vegan chicken nugget is going to put them on a healthy scale— it won’t. I wanted to be able to come in and share some of our meals hoping to maybe help people struggling with food ideas (vegan or not). Β And *hopefully* provide a bit food inspiration (for kids or even adults). We aren’t raw-foodies, or gluten free, or completely sugar free either, so I’m not trying to say we’re health gods over here (we’re not), but I do know we eat pretty well, and very low to no processed stuff, so if this even helps one family or one person skip a fast food or processed meal, I’m happy about it.But it’s good to note that it’s likely that each image is just one meal from one day. Some meals will be super healthy, some will be junky– there’s always a good mix going on over here, but if anything, keeping it well-balanced is key. And not completely, but mostly un-processed.

As always, I’ll be sure to mention if Marlowe picked something out and absolutely hated it. And as always, I want to keep it real around here. So hey, you will *every once in a while* see a plate of nachos or (a lot of) pizza for lunch. Balance balance balance. Have questions on the food? Just ask. I’ll link recipes when I can or I’ll let you know if we (the adults) ate something similar and Marlowe’s meal was modified to be more kid friendly and separate from ours— though these days, she just eats what we eat, minus the hot sauce πŸ˜‰
She’s a “medium kid” now— (not a little kid, guys), but if you want to see the older early toddler meals, check them out HERE.

calentado made with black rice,Β + avocado.

chickpea salad, extra carrots.

lentil and six veggie shepard’s pie. (recipe will be in book!)

not fabulous looking, but a decent “we’re running out of food in the fridge” kale, carrot, and red sauce lasagna with cashew cheese.Β

smokey white bean, tomato, kale soup with forbidden rice.

nachos yo. (she doesn’t eat the salsa)

  1. I love blogs like this one personally. And if you are like me, i would like to make a suggestion for you to check out Alexis Stewart's blog (yes, Martha's daughter, the blog is no longer updated though) She post tons of pictures of the healthy dishes she made her toddler.

  2. I obsessed with your recipes! Will there be a digital version of your cookbook? I want to purchase it, but I've moved to paperless cookbooks/recipes.

  3. I'm going to have to go back and take another look at what Marlow ate as a little kid. My M is eleven months old (today!) and has never been into baby food — but also has had some swallowing issues — so it's a challenge to come up with a variety of foods that she can handle and feed herself. But she's been pretty adventurous and game so far, and I can only hope-hope-hope she keeps it up into the toddler years. (That's a big hope, I know.)

  4. I feel super inspired! Thank you for sharing — and such lovely pictures too πŸ™‚ We're living in S. Florida too! Where are your favorite autumn places to go? Is there apple picking anywhere?

    • Are you new to Florida? there's no real autumn here haha! And ef. no apple picking— though you might find avocado and strawberry picking in the next few months πŸ™‚

  5. She's so very lucky… I wish my parents had made me meals like this when I was a child! One of the best moments of my life was when I made quinoa and steamed kale for my nieces and they both asked for more!!! How lovely to get a taste of wonderful whole foods as a child.

    • We make most food from scratch and shop mostly, but not exclusively from whole foods. πŸ™‚

  6. I love these posts– so happy you've decided to bring them back!
I have never heard of 'forbidden rice' so I was a little curious about what that entailed…

  7. I'm really happy to see this back, it's so full of great ideas. I shall look forward to these posts. CJ xx

  8. My two year old is impossible to feed. I have been tempted to try your chickpea patty recipe forever to introduce another protein source, because as much as I hate to admit it, kid loves his chicken nuggets! Glad this feature is back!

  9. oh, i'm so happy these are back! my son isn't too much younger than marlowe, and i've always found these posts so inspiring! also, can't wait for your cookbook to come out. hope it's super soon!

  10. She's such a good little eater! I gotta give you props! You're doing a great job!! And I'm totally addicted to forbidden rice!!! So delicious!

  11. I can't even tell you how impressed I am that she eats all of that. Most of my adult friends don't even eat that well! Great job mama!
