We discussed our wedding options for a while, and after all, we’ve been through together, we decided this was best for us, just him and I, celebrating each other. We went to the courthouse about a month before and asked for our marriage license. We told Marlowe we would be coming back to get married. We set our date, woke up early, and walked our way into the courthouse to say our “our do’s” and our “I love you forever’s” (forever and ever’s). Afterward, we stopped at our favorite market for falafel to-go and jumped on a plane to our honeymoon. We’d like to think about a bigger (really small) wedding to celebrate with our friends and family in the future, but even if that never comes to life, this was perfect for us.

I really don’t have much to say, we both fought really hard to get here. It just goes to show how much love can really get you through. It’s been a really long and crazy road that we’ve been on &I am just so happy for us.

(And this one is for you, alex, for how many times you sent it to me. I love you.)

  1. I know that this is an old post. But I just had to say that this is what I want for my husband and I. Yes, husband! We are not married, so technically, he is my fiance. But when you have been together for 9 years, have 3 kids, and have gone through hell and back together….it just seems easier to say husband. And it makes sense for us. And we don't have to explain our situation…which really, I don't think we should ever have to…but some people are nosey! Anyway….a little ceremony. Just hiim and I (and I am sure the kids too). At the courthouse. No big hoopla with food and dancing. Just simpleness. <3

  2. Your dress is amazing and these pictures are absolutely stunning. : ) A little late… but, Congrats to you and your beautiful family!

  3. This is such a wonderful and heart-warming post. Congratulations to you both and your family as a whole!! I think you look incredibly beautiful and very genuinely laid back. You both look so comfortable, and happy and completely un-flappable – everything a person ought to be when they're making vows to a hugely significant person.

  8. I'll admit when I read you two were back together again, I worried for Marlowe. I was a child of very young parents who went through a lot of dating/marriages in their 20's and it was hell for me. I have to say after reading more about you're guys journey, I think it's actually a really beautiful example to Marlowe. "We both fought really hard to get here"- i just love that and I think that is the truest expression of love I've read. It is nice when you see couples that just effortlessly get together but something about your journey with alex feels more real. congrats you two! You give me hope 🙂

  9. beautiful photos! they really capture the intimacy of eloping! CHEERS to many years 🙂

  10. Really beautiful photos! Most of my friends who have had courthouse weddings don't bother taking pictures, especially not like this! I love it. Congratulations again!

  11. Hi Drea! Longtime reader, but I don't think I've commented before. You look stunning–classic, but with your own boho/young/elegant style thrown in as well. I LOVE small, romantic weddings that are meaningful the couple, rather than all about tradition and/or showing off.

I love your dress–could you possibly give any more info on it?? Is there a tag with the brand or designer? The timeframe of when it's from?

    • hi! sorry it took me so long to respond. I just checked the tag and did a quick google search.. it's miss elliette, probably from 1960's

      🙂

  20. so happy for you. I wish our courthouse was more picturesque, we would have done the same – but it is just an ugly government building, so we did a civil ceremony on my parent's back deck. I love teeny tiny weddings.

  21. I just love everything about this! Jessica's photos are beautiful, ya'll are beautiful…it's all just BEAUTIFUL! So happy for you! 🙂

  26. Beautiful photos! As long as the both of you are happy, it doesn't matter if it's a small or big wedding. Love your dress and hair braid! 🙂

  27. Congratulations! You guys did what was right for you, and it turned out beautiful. Lovely photos–you both look so happy. Yay for you all!!!

  28. Big Congratulations – I think this is the perfect way to tie the knot, after all it is just about you two. (not forgetting little Marlowe of course…but the actual getting married bit…you know…) I had the same thoughts of maybe-we-will-celebrate-like-a-normal-wedding-another-time…but, the actual being married thing is so much more important and wonderful…in my book anyhoo. Congratulations again (and i will look forward to seeing photos if you do have yourself a shindig) xx

  29. Congratulations! There is just something so incredibly romantic about an elopement. You both look beautiful and so in love.

  30. gosh, you are simply beautiful. your entire look was perfect for your special day, from your makeup to hairstyle to clothing and even his shoes. loved every single photo! you both look smitten. SO SO happy for you.

  31. OH MY GOODNESS – I LOVE IT!!! So adorable and perfect. I tried to talk hubby into eloping because my parents said they would just give us all the wedding money if we didn't have a real wedding, but hubby wouldn't do it! LAME! Love this so much!

  32. Oh, these are just the sweetest photos! I'm not a crier, but they made me tear up. Congratulations and best wishes!

  33. This is beautiful! i discovered your blog recently and am in love. Went back to reading your first posts to get to know you more and your story.

  34. The photos are gorgeous. I love that you did something that fit you too. I think too many times we get pressured in having huge elaborate weddings to impress others. It's less about the wedding day but more about the marriage.
