What a fantastic weekend! My best friend Christine flew into town on friday. Saturday was baby shower day. &Sunday was recovery day while organizing all of babycakes’ new wonderful things! I really couldn’t have asked for better weather on Saturday. It was one of the most perfect summer days for South florida. This time of the year it’s usually unbearably hot with constant rain showers and extremely humid and dense air, but this this weekend! It was constantly breezy and consistently sunny! Cleaning, decorating,  and cooking went flawlessly saturday morning. We had everything set up by 2pm and I was able to put my feet up and relax for a solid 30 minutes. (HA!)
There was a wonderful turn out of friends and only a small amount of people I had hoped could attend and couldn’t (but all with good reason: distance, traveling out of the country, sickness, yada yada). I originally had a hard time deciding what to do about the shower because most of my family and my lifelong friends that I have known forever are in New England. Knowing I didn’t want to travel back and forth or spend the time, effort, and money throwing two parties I opted to have one party down here. It worked out incredibly well even though I knew most people would be unable to travel down here for it. Either way I should and will be planning a spring or summer trip up north to introduce my little babycakes.
I am grateful beyond words for all the help, time, and love my sister-in-law (Nicole), brother (Mark), and friends put into this party for me. I had felt gipped with my last two birthdays and I’ve never really had a proper party for myself, and this really made up for all of that. It feels really good to be surrounded by happy, loving people— not just at the party, but in general. I’ve received more love from people and strangers throughout this pregnancy that I EVER could have imagined.  Anyway…
SUCCESS! The “placenta punch” was a big hit. I did a mixture of raspberry rum, lemon lime soda, grenadine, cherries, with broken up vegan lychee jell-o and a large placenta looking piece of vegan raspberry jell-o.

I obviously didn’t have the punch, but I imagine, and got told it was delicious. My brother also purchased a Dogfish Head 60 Minute keg and I stocked up on water and sparkling cider for myself. We also had a bunch of delicious vegan options (guacamole, black bean tacos, veggies burgers, chips and dip). And Laura brought over a brownie cake and a batch of cookies. So good (like usual). The cookies were actually all eaten before guests even arrived πŸ™‚ I also had a onesie decorating station by request, a “new mommy advice card” box, a hula girl pinata (with my face on it), and Eric jig-sawed out a wood silhouette of me and some fetus shapes for pin the fetus on the belly. The wood silhouette never got used, but it really is incredible and I plan on doing something with it later.
My little one made out like a bandit as far as gifts…. πŸ™‚ She got a lot of gifts that were really needed and necessities but there were also gifts that I really didn’t need at all, but REALLY wanted and I didn’t expect to get at all… but I did! My friends Maureen and Oz got me the Plan Toy Arabian rocking horse! I LOVE IT.
As far as most thoughtful gift, I without a doubt have to give credit to Eric. I received 3 separate packages from him… one box containing the cutest little wooden animals that were all supposed to be “looking up at me” when I opened the box… they weren’t.. but he tried πŸ™‚ He also got me the ice cream maker, which is definitely not a necessity, but I wanted it, and it is obviously amazing. Best of all, Eric had come with me one day for a fabric run to Johanns and tried to take note (without me knowing) of the certain fabrics I liked. He then went back on his own and picked up all those fabrics and sent them to Georgia with him mom for her trip up there, where his mom and sister made the most beautiful dresses, bibs, and matching burp cloths for the baby! His mom also made me the most amazing floral (my favorite) blanket. I really just looked down in awe. I was all so amazing…. not just his gifts, but everyones gifts. Everyone was so thoughtful. I have a lot of thank you cards to write this week.
It was a long day, but like I said, it was a great day of spending time swimming in beautiful weather with people I really enjoy. I thought it was pretty amusing that people kept asking about the size of my belly… expecting me to have plateaued and not get bigger. HA. There is still plenty of growth time for me and this torpedo belly.

I’m going to try my hardest to quit procrastinating and stay focused while updating. I just need to get in the habit… we’ll see πŸ™‚

  1. I read this post the first time around, and loved it then too πŸ™‚ I'm so sorry to say that I don't read your blog as much these days because it all got to be a bit too 'perfect' and 'everything is awesome every minute of the day' for me. Nevertheless, I wish you the best of luck in the future

    • well, I do appreciate you reading less instead of just angrily reading! My blog has changed a bit over time, but with my life— it's not awesome everyday, but its pretty good most days, so I am very happy for that, even if others don't enjoy it as much as the gloomy hard days! Thanks though πŸ™‚

  2. I think I double commented, so ignore that. I created a google account just to comment on here instead of creeping silently!:)
