This past sunday was a blast. My friend Steph (last minute) invited us to go canoeing just a bit north of us, with her family. We had quiet plans for the day, pie baking, yard work, clean house and packing, but we (last minute) jumped into the plans. We (especially I) have been wanting to take Marlowe canoeing for quite some time now— I grew up doing it with my dad and loved and hated it (I was scared of everything). With nap time, toddler concerns, and the heat, we never made the jump to take Marlowe before. This time around, it seemed like a good time to try… and well, we’re all very happy we went. It was a blast. Like I mentioned, the weather is finally starting to slowly cool off here— think low to mid 80’s. I know still pretty hot… but our fun and adventure time is finally starting. We paddled downstream to a boat ramp stop for food, drinks, and water fun (no swimming for me), and paddled back up stream in the pouring rain! AND (thankfully??) we didn’t spot any gators… so yes, all ten of us made it out alive πŸ˜‰ It was a good day, we’re looking forward to doing it again soon.

this romper. the closest we could get marlowe into shorts/tee– or anything not a dress.
Speaking of cooler weather, M and I are flying into Boston tonight. It’ll be a nice time with family. With Alex’s new work scheduling and everything so up in the air, he unfortunately won’t be coming up with us… but it’s a short trip and we’ll back be in the Florida sun and heat before we know it. Wish us safe travels! Happy Tuesday! I’ll be back tomorrow with sort-of-kind-of recipe post πŸ™‚
pst. thanks steph for some of these photos. you the best, bb.

  1. That looks like so much fun. We're just beginning to explore the parks and new places in our new homestate of NC, and there are so many lakes and rivers here my husband must say the word "canoe" 100 times weekly. We did, however, get to the beach last weekend! Wrightsville Beach was the one my family went to nearly always when I grew up and it was really special to me to take my own children there for the first time. I can't wait to take them to all the places I went as a child growing up in the Southeast — and a bunch of the ones I never got to see, either. Like: I really, really, REAAAAALLY want to take my kids to the campground at Walt Disney World. My mean parents hated me and always made me stay in fancy hotels (like that's child abuse) whereas the campground has a private beach, horsies, boating, oh, and that other stuff WDW has, too. πŸ˜‰

  5. I know it's going to be in the 90s and humid in New York tomorrow. I hope it's cooler in Boston! Have an amazing time!

This mini trip looks like a cool adventure! I don't think I have the balls to do it.

  6. My parents used to take us canoeing all the time when we were little. I think I need to take my boys. Thanks for the reminder.

  7. I feel like I remember you saying a while back that Marlowe wasn't to jazzed about the pool, but it looks like she likes the river. This is one body of water I've never been in that I'll definitely have to visit one of these days.

  8. Safe travels! I wish a trip to Boston was in my plans, lovely cool fall weather to escape this SoCal heat!

  11. It looks like so much fun. I've only been in a canoe once. It was while we were in Thailand and part of a day trip with other activities. Next time we won't do something like that because you get rushed too much. I'd rather just do it at my own pace.

  12. I bet I'd enjoy seeing you pie baking, yard working, cleaning the house and packing, but yes, canoeing has got this extra wow factor πŸ˜‰

Beautiful photos, Drea and amazing experience for Marlowe. I can see she had company of little people so it must meant fun all around.

Have a great time in Boston, your summer is definitely not over! xxxx
